There are two server software components: 

• The Ingeniux CMS Development Server software provides core content management functionality, such as creating and editing web pages, managing users, configuring permissions, and processing content through workflow. 
• The Ingeniux CMS Production Server software delivers content to the Internet, brokering requests for web pages, applying business rules to transform XML into the appropriate format for the requesting device type, browser, brand or constituent group. It also processes and executes any run-time operations, such as data queries or forms.

Content contributors access the system through web-based clients connecting to the server software via HTTP.  Users can work remotely so long as they have a Web connection and permission to access the software.  The Windows client is embedded inside Microsoft IE 6.  The Macintosh client is a native OS X application.

Development Server Software

The Ingeniux CMS Development Server software is a Windows-based application.  Windows 2003 is required. (NOTE: a Java version of the Development Server is in development and will run on major versions of Unix and Macintosh OS X.)  Hardware and software requirements for the Ingeniux CMS Development Server software include:

• Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Opteron / 2 GHz, or better, depending on site traffic and load.  Note: hyper-threaded servers or dual-processor servers are recommended for heavily trafficked sites.

• A J2EE-compatible servlet container, such as Tomcat 4.0 or above.  Ingeniux directly supports Tomcat 4.0 or above, either stand-alone or running under the Apache Web server.
